Why You Should Use Laserlite Polycarbonate Sheets for Your Greenhouse

We can’t all garden year round…unless you have a greenhouse. The main purpose of a greenhouse is securing a reasonable amount of heat and water vapours, so that warmth and humidity is maintained within the greenhouse. And not to forget, adding a greenhouse to your yard reduces your carbon footprint by eliminating the farm stage and transportation costs of bringing fresh produce to your table. Isn’t that something?

Even though glass is the traditional material used for construction, it has several disadvantages, some of them being high cost and heavy weight. The main problem with glass is that is a poor insulator unless you use double or triple panes. Glass is also difficult and expensive to replace if broken. This is where Translucent Laserlite Polycarbonate roofing product steps in, offering a practical, long-life alternative with several advantages.

What Is Clear Laserlite?

All Laserlite®polycarbonate roof sheeting is manufactured using 100% Makrolon® resin and is distributed throughout New Zealand by Alsynite One. Laserlite® is manufactured to the strict Australasian quality standard requirements of AS 4256.5 2006 and is regularly assessed and certified by external testing body SAI Global.

Laserlite is manufactured from polycarbonates which provides strength and durability against natural hazards, such as hail. Clear refers to the colour, which offers the highest diffuse light transmission. Diffuse light is ideal for a greenhouse because it maximizes exposure to all portions of the plant's leaves.

Product Line

Laserlite comes in different product lines. Polycarbonate panels are available in corrugated sheets, or in double-wall or even triple-wall panels. The multi-wall panels help to retain heat in the greenhouse with their excellent insulating values, but still allow plenty of light into the greenhouse. Please check our Laserlite Polycarbonate Roofing page for further information.

Greenhouse Benefits

One problem that exists with some polycarbonate products is degradation due to ultraviolet exposure. Laserlite sheets have a coating to protect the product from harmful rays that can shorten its lifespan. In addition, the diffused light generates less heat than clear glass. While you want a greenhouse to be warm inside, the light should not be so intense that it scorches the plants and dries out the soil too quickly. Laserlite is tested for the wind load it can sustain as well as its fire performance.

The final advantage for any gardeners is that polycarbonate filters out nearly all harmful UV rays, so you need have no fear of sunburn. And you could have a greenhouse that rivals a glass greenhouse in pure aesthetics, but without living in constant fear of every thundercloud that passes close enough to toss a hailstone in your direction!

An investment in Laserlite polycarbonate materials is an investment in the overall longevity and maintenance of your green space.
